Recently, the Samsung Electronics Co. President Young Sohn at the Berlin event revealed that the company has almost sold around 1 million Galaxy Fold smartphones globally. “And I think that the point is, we are selling a million of these products. There are a million people that want to use this product at $2,000” However, certain reports deny this fact of selling one million Galaxy Fold smartphones globally since its launch in September 2019.
Pointing to this fact, Samsung spokesman said, “Sohn may have confused the figure with the company’s initial sales target for the year, emphasizing that sales of the tech firm’s first foldable handset have not reached 1 million units.”
This clarifies that the company has never sold 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold. However, analysts believe that the company sells between 400,000 to 500,000 units of Galaxy Fold in 2019. Now, the company is expecting to sell more 500,000 units globally. Nevertheless, Samsung did not reveal the actual figure of the Samsung Galaxy Fold units sold out. Industry insiders said that the Samsung foldable phone sales will pick up in the coming year. And it is possible to sell 6 million units in 2020.
Talking of the 1 million sales of Samsung Galaxy Fold, it is not a big deal compared to tens of millions of phones that are sold out each quarter. But as for the Galaxy Fold, it is very expensive and even is unproven which is a bit surprising. We find many other smaller manufacturers who are struggling hard to sell a fraction of foldable phones at a much lower price.

Choi Bo-young, an analyst at Kyobo Securities, said that “Samsung is expected to sell 6 million units of its foldable phone in 2020 and 20 million units in 2021” “Prices of foldable phones are expected to go down gradually, and this would push up demand for foldable handsets.”
The South Korean giant announced the Samsung Galaxy Fold at MWC 2019 thus joining the list of foldable devices. Additionally, the company is allegedly reported to be working on the Galaxy Fold 2 which may appear at MWC 2020. Interestingly! It may cost just $1,000. The cost of the handset nearly gets half of the original Galaxy Fold. IF it is to be true, we just need to wait and see how the company manages the quality to cut down costs. However, this price point will definitely make the foldable devices available for everyone.
While the current Samsung Galaxy Fold price is nearly around $2000 thus not a handset most people like to pay for. It restricts a large sector of the population to prefer. Due to which the company is in plans to bring in a cheaper version with 256GB of internal storage rather than 512GB.
The Fold went on sale after several months of its first appearance due to numerous reasons. Initially, the Korean company canceled the launch plans to revise the design and internal parts so as to make it less prone to cracks. Even other foldable smartphones including Huawei’s Mate X had a delay in shipping due to durability and longevity issues.
