The last time when Huawei has offered a fitness tracker was in 2016. Since then, the company has its major focus set on the smartphones and indeed it has introduced some amazing phones during this period. Now, the company is back again to this segment with the new fitness tracker named TalkBand B5. It carries most of the design elements of its predecessor but includes a few improved features as well, which we will find out in the following review.
The fourth generation TalkBand B5 also comes with a big display, which in fact is the largest among all other models in the lineup. Till now, we have mostly seen the AMOLED screens in Samsung phones like Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9 Plus, Galaxy J6 and many others. But now, we can see the color AMOLED touchscreen on this TalkBand as well. This display measures 1.13-inches and offers a resolution of 160×300. It features a 2.5D glass that gives enhanced protection to the fitness tracking components inside it. The tracker’s long and rectangular screen not only resembles with that of its predecessor TalkBand B3, but also to many other fitness trackers like Fitbit Charge 2, Xiaomi Mi Band 2, Lenovo HW01 fitness band and others. Moreover, its IP67 water resistant feature keeps it safe when in contact with water.
Besides the attractive display, the other aspect which highlights the device is the tracker can be removed out of the band and used as a Bluetooth headset. It is can be removed using the buttons present on either sides of the screen. Interestingly, the headset also includes an optical TruSeen heart rate sensor that ensures 24/7 monitoring even when cycling, walking and other activities and provides regular stats. In addition, Huawei TalkBand B5 features a trip-core audio chip with high-definition voice and uses a dual microphone with noise reduction. Apart from this, it also supports call muting, speed dial as well as caller ID support.
Huawei has used the TruRelax Technology for its new fitness tracker, TalkBand B5. This technology helps in analyzing the user’s heart rate variability and also look at the stress status. Besides, the TruSleep 2.0 makes use of the cardiopulmonary coupled dynamics spectrum (CPC), which keeps track of the sleep structure including deep sleep (REM) and give suggestions accordingly. Besides this, the tracker also counts the number of steps, calories, distance, recovery time suggestion, heart rate evaluation and also helps schedule the workouts or physical activities. However, the device might require using the EMUI 4.1 or above version to support some of its features. On the other hand, it makes use of a 108mAh battery that will last for almost three and a half days on a single charge.
The Huawei TalkBand B5 is compatible with almost all the Apple iPhones that run on the iOS 9 or above versions. Interestingly, the fitness tracker is also compatible with devices that come with the Android 4.4 or above versions of the operating system. Meanwhile, there are also a few phone applications available on the device, which are useful to find it when lost or control the phone’s camera through the tracker itself.
The Huawei TalkBand B5 release date in UAE was confirmed to be in August this year in markets including UAE, Saudi Arabia and others.
