Honor View 20 Review

April 4, 2019

Honor View 20 is one of the recent flagship smartphones that is unlike other devices from the brand. Generally, the Honor phones are seen as an alternative to the expensive Huawei models that give cut-throat competition to Apple and Samsung. Despite being inexpensive, it still looks like a high-range product that lacks some of the top-end features. Nevertheless, it is a promising phone that packs in enough storage space, a 48MP camera and the new punch hole display. On the whole, the device is a good value for money and the best alternative for OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi 8.

Honor View 20 – Features & Specifications:

The Honor View 20, which is also called the Honor V20 in China, can be simply defined as an aggressive phone. Like never before, this handset comes with a light reactive chevron finish. It also gets the gradient effect which further adds to its looks. With this model, the brand introduces the punch hole screen design as an alternative to the notch. And the transparent circle in the screen houses the main camera. The fingerprint scanner sits in the rear, while the 3.5mm audio jack and an IR blaster are present at the top. This bold device has among the highest screen to surface ratios and sports a 6.4-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080×2310 pixels.

Talking about the optics, Honor has bestowed it with two cameras in the rear. The main camera of 48MP takes the best snaps including 2x zoom images besides providing their information. Whereas the second one is a ToF (time of flight) 3D camera that gives a zoomed or wide-angle view. This one is useful for giving details in photos, AR apps as well as games. The other phone that carries a ToF camera is the Oppo RX17 Pro. But when it comes to Honor View 20, it runs on the latest Android 9 software and hence, it offers better support to the camera technology.

As for the battery, the handset comes packed with a 4000mAh battery that surpasses even OnePlus 6T, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Sony Xperia XZ3. This unit supports fast charging and powers up the handset completely in around 1hour 12 minutes. During the tests, the handset was still left with nearly 40 percent charging by the end of the day after moderate to heavy use of social media as well as video streaming.

When it comes to the hardware, the brand has incorporated it with an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset with Mali G76 GPU. This is the same processor used in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro as well. This chipset helps in better performance besides ensuring low power consumption. As for the software, it runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system with Magic UI 2.0 on the top. In terms of memory, Honor View 20 is offered with both 6 and 8GB RAM options with an internal memory of 128GB and 256GB respectively.

This stunning handset is released in two variants at different prices. Honor View 20 price in Dubai at the time of its launch was around AED 2399.
