As we are in the new year, all eyes are towards the upcoming Google Pixel smartphones. Until now, only Google Pixel 4a is in rumors for release in 2020. But, the latest rumors hint for the company to be in works in a slew of mid-range smartphones. Apart from the price-conscious Pixel 4a in Dubai, the latest whispers suggest the availability of Google Pixel 4a XL. Moreover, the device with a blue color option on board for the new series smartphone. The first-generation Google Pixel X and XL is a great success. Even Pixel 2, 2XL along with Pixel 3 and 3XL are good to go smartphones. With the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, the company rolled off the dice into the mid-range sector. After the 3a series, we are anticipating follow-up, which is likely to join the mid-range.
The report from XDA developers brought in devices with three code names- Sunfish, redfin, and bramble. Of these Sunfish is the Google Pixel 4a with Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. Furthermore, the code reveals the device with the support of 4G connectivity. It further displays two builds of the device. One is based on Android 10 and other runs on Android 11 OS. So, the device will be with Android 10 out of the box and later upgraded to Android 11. Redfin is another code name we heard of. It is more of a premium smartphone that could be Google Pixel 4a XL with Qualcomm SD 765 processor. As the chipset has built-in 5G support, the XL variant is likely to be a 5G variant of the mid-range Pixel family. The third being bramble, which features an advanced processor and the same Android 10 and Android 11 builds. As the news isn’t official, it must be taken with a pinch of salt.
It is common for Google to give out fish-based code names to the developing models that are in testing. “Any or all of the devices referenced in the company’s code could just be prototypes made for its labs only.”
Though we can’t expect the availability of all the three smartphones, two of them seem logical, the smaller Pixel 4a with 4G support and the premium XL model offering 5G support. If this is the case, then we could see either redfin or the bramble on board. There is every chance for more mid-rangers from Google entering the market in the coming months.
