The latest revelations about Facebook reveal that the company is in plans to offer a Facebook ad-free subscription option to users. The brand considers it as a new potential source for generating revenue. If news reports are to be true, Facebook is currently into market research to find out if this option can really fetch more users.
According to Bloomberg, a reputed media company, this move came following a loss of trust from its users after the Cambridge Analytica data leak. In this leak, the personal information of 87 million users was revealed. With this issue, the public came to know how their personal details can be used by Facebook app developers without their consent. This issue came to light when the news about Cambridge Analytica’s user data harvesting practices surfaced.
Facebook has had a great impact with this scandal, but on the other hand, it is considering whether or not it can provide an ad-free Facebook version to its users. If this plan works out, it would be quite interesting to see how it goes and what all effects it will bring upon. But a few reports are also indicating that it will continue accumulating data as long as users are on the free ad Facebook page.
Currently, the American company is conducting market research to find out if their new step of creating free ad Facebook subscription version will attract more users or not. However, there is no official statement yet in regards this update.
Based on the sources, Facebook has tried the subscription option before also but never implemented them. But it seems to be the right time for the company especially, after the scandal. Moreover, it looks like the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg are both positive about this new move.
Sheryl Sandberg was quoted as saying, “We certainly thought about lots of other forms of monetization including subscriptions, and we’ll always continue to consider everything.” She further added, ‘Ads for us are a very natural fit for our business, and we have a lot of runways ahead of us.’ Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg in a statement said, “there will always be a version of Facebook that is free.”
However, considering the issue around Facebook, this new move of ad-free Facebook will help lessen the fear of users that advertisers would use all their personal data. Till now, advertisers relied on the Facebook ads manager on their smartphones to manage ads. It is possible that Facebook might collect necessary details in other forms. But if there is not advertising on a paid account, then there are no chances of data leaks or misuse. In addition to this, diversification will further help the company to expand its revenue streams.
On the other hand, Facebook is also trying to identify and disable all the face accounts using the latest artificial intelligence tools. This step will help the company to put a limit or completely restrict the data that developers access.
Recently, Facebook has also launched a new app called Facebook Dating targeting dating and relationships. This feature will go live probably later this year. Read on to know about Facebook Dating features its fun to know How To Convert Facebook Profile To Facebook Page 2018.
